The IP Offices of both Australia and New Zealand are presently operating as usual. Applicants can continue to correspond with the IP Offices via the usual electronic channels. IP Australia states that it remains committed to meeting its service delivery obligations.
Where an applicant cannot meet a deadline within time due to the COVID-19 outbreak an extension of time may be available and will be considered on a case by case basis as per the current practice. Applicants should note that some time periods cannot be extended.
Please contact us to check if an extension of time is possible for your application in Australia or New Zealand.
For the duration of the COVID-19 situation, IP Australia will only be conducting hearings by video conference, telephone or written submissions.
In relation to international trade mark applications, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has also confirmed its continuing operations under the Madrid System for the international registration of marks.
This is obviously a fluid situation. We will endeavour to update this blog as and when new developments arise.
